2014 US New Star Piano Competition

Rules and Application Instructions

Please read the following information thoroughly before filling out the application. Failure to comply the following rules may result in disqualification. The US New Star Piano Competition will be held via .mp4 file submissions. To apply, fill out the application on the link above. Application forms must be printed clearly and completely.

 Age Groups:

Applicants must select the correct age group on the application that corresponds to their age as of November 30th, 2014.

Group I: Age 7 and Under

Group II: 8-9

Group III: 10-11

Group IV: 12-13

Group V: 14-15

Group VI:16-17

Video and Music Requirements:

Applicants must prepare two songs of contrasting musical periods; one must be of Classical or Baroque style. The music recordings must be clear and free of background noise, with the applicant clearly in the frame. The piece must be memorized. The submitted videos may not be used for any purposes except for submission in the competition. The videos may not be edited. All recordings sent will not be returned and are the sole property of US New Star Music, LLC. US New Star Music, LLC reserves the right to post the winners and their videos to its public website.

Dates and Fees:

All applications, fees, and audition videos should be postmarked* and shared no later than November 30, 2014. If entries are postmarked* and/or shared from November 31, 2014 to December 6, 2014, applicants are subject to a late fee. The entry fee for the New Star Music Competition is $53. An early payment discount of $10 is applicable if all materials are postmarked* and shared by November 10, 2014. The late fee is $20. There is an addition $20 processing fee for non-US residents. Application fees must be paid by check or money order made out to US New Star Music, LLC. The application fees are nonrefundable.

* If international application, entry must be received by this date.

 

 Application Changes

If applicants are missing application information or choose to change their music or any application information, they must send in a new application, and resubmit the audition video if there is a change in music. An additional re-entry processing fee of $20 must be enclosed with the application.

Submission:

Applicants may submit their videos through Google Drive, by e-mail, or on CDs. All videos must be in .mp4 file format.

If submitted through Google Drive, the videos must be shared with competition@usnsmc.org and labeled ‘Piano Audition Video: (Applicant Name): Piece (I/II).If applicants choose to share their videos by e-mail, the files must be sent to competition@usnsmc.org. Applicants must change the subject of the e-mail to ‘Piano Audition Video: (Applicant Name)’.

If applicants choose to send their videos through CDs, the disks must be labeled clearly with the following: ‘Piano Audition Video: (Applicant Name)’. Audio CDs will not be accepted.

Winners:

The winners of the New Star Music Competition will be announced on usnsmc.org by January 6, 2015. The competition will be adjudicated by professional musicians, unaffiliated with US New Star Music, LLC. Winners will be selected from each age group. Judge decisions are final. The winners and their videos will be posted on the US New Star Music Competition website. Winners will receive a certificate. First Prize winners will receive a cash prize of $100. Certificates and cash prizes will be sent by January 20, 2015 to the address of the applicants’ teachers.
