2022 US New Star Strings Competition Judges

We’re honored to have Drs Sila Darville and Nathan Jasinski adjudicate our US New Star Strings Competition this year. Their bios follow.


Dr. Sila Darville

 

Turkish violinist Dr. Sila Darville holds degrees from Istanbul Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory, University of Minnesota and Texas Tech University. She received many international awards and honors including Rotary Club International Competition for Young Musicians; Turkish Educational Foundation Outstanding Achievement Award; Thursday Musical Young Artist Scholarship Competition and Schubert Club Scholarship Competition.

Dr. Darville has performed with many Symphonic Orchestras including the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Lubbock as the principal second, Lubbock Moonlight Musicals, the Amarillo Symphony, Midland Symphony, the La Crosse Symphony, Paducah Symphony Orchestra and Louisville Orchestra. Most recently published a commercial chamber music recording of Kentucky composer Joe Levin with EKU faculty members. As an avid violinist she performs regularly and recently performed Prokofiev Violin Concerto No.1 with EKU Symphony.

Dr. Darville is a regular guest teacher and clinician at institutions such as Kentucky All State Orchestra, Kentucky Music Educators Association, Western Kentucky University, Middle Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee, University of Texas Arlington and Istanbul Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul, Turkey.


 

Dr. Nathan Jasinski

Cellist Nathan Jasinski has given solo and chamber music performances in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, and throughout the United States. A recent highlight includes a performance of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto with the Keweenaw Symphony in Michigan. He performs regularly with the Appalachia Piano Trio, the Amadeus Chamber Ensemble of Knoxville, as continuo/solo cellist with the Kentucky Bach Choir, and as a solo recitalist.

An enthusiastic educator, Dr. Jasinski frequently gives cello and chamber music master classes at educational venues throughout the country. He joined the music faculty at Eastern Kentucky University in 2006. Prior to this appointment, he taught at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and Snow College in Ephraim, UT.

His love of teaching has led to his working with young musicians at the Interlochen and Steven Foster music camps. Dr. Jasinski was awarded the Kentucky Music Educators’ Association Collegiate Teacher of the Year in 2018. He is currently president of the Kentucky Cello Club, an organization that promotes cello playing and teaching throughout the lower Midwest.

Dr. Jasinski earned degrees in cello performance from Brigham Young University and Arizona State University, and his doctorate from the University of Michigan.
